Agriculture & value chains

Strengthening stakeholders and organising value chains.

Producer support, farmer field schools, cooperative support, development of the rice, cassava, market gardening, cashew, coffee and cocoa, and poultry value chains.

What we do

A farm value chain works when every link is strong: well-trained producers, well-run cooperatives, buyers with whom contracts are signed. We work in the fields and with farmers’ organisations to strengthen these links, in rice, cassava, market gardening, cashew, coffee and cocoa, and poultry. Our assignments have been carried out with GIZ, IFDC and 2SCALE and the Cotton and Cashew Council.

Field

  1. 01

Producer support, farmer field schools and demonstrations

Producers adopt a new practice when they see it working on a plot close to home. We run farmer field schools and demonstration plots where good farming practices are learned together, season after season: seeds, land preparation, crop maintenance, harvest.

  2. 02

    Cooperative support, contracting and sourcing

A cooperative carries more weight when it is well organised and bound to buyers by clear contracts. We support its governance and management, map the players in the value chain, and support linkages and contracting with buyers, as for IFDC and 2SCALE.

  3. 03

Development of the rice, cassava, market gardening, cashew, coffee and cocoa, and poultry value chains

Developing a value chain means bringing producers, processors and buyers together around shared goals and keeping information flowing between them. We organise this work in the field, spread good practices and collect the data used to track progress.

  4. 04

Inclusion of young people and women

Young people and women play a central role in agriculture, but have less access to training, credit and markets. We build their participation in from the design of activities: dedicated training, financial education, support for village savings and loan associations.

  5. 05

    Support for sustainability programmes

Sustainability programmes require practices in the field to change, and that change to be proven. We support producers and cooperatives through these approaches: training, organising traceability and monitoring the commitments made to partners.

Our approach

  1. Frame

Clarify the need, the context, the risks, the stakeholders and the expected results.

  2. Deliver

Bring in the right profiles and carry out the study, inspection, training or support.

  3. Report

Document findings and achievements, present recommendations and agree on next steps.

We support producers and cooperatives in the field: farmer field schools, demonstrations, contract farming and programme monitoring.
